Kibler Fowler & Cave LLP Launches “Close to Home” Campaign

Law Firm Commits 5% of Its April Revenue to Non-Profits and Current Law Students Affected by the Novel Coronavirus Pandemic

LOS ANGELES, CA – Boutique trial and litigation firm Kibler Fowler & Cave LLP announced today an initiative supporting a set of institutions that have been providing vitally needed assistance during this unprecedented pandemic, pledging 5% of the firm’s April 2020 revenue to support the cause. The initial rollout of the “Close to Home” Campaign is focused on organizations to which the firm has close ties through direct partner and employee involvement, and is designed to benefit entities that fill needs that have become overlooked as this crisis evolves.

“Demand for services from the organizations we are supporting is increasing dramatically at the same time that their budgets are shrinking” says Managing Partner Michael Kibler. “We are hoping that this initiative will encourage others in the legal community to find entities like these to support, which are often wholly reliant on outside funding. These organizations are close to our hearts, and we are proud to support them.” In addition, the campaign seeks to remain community oriented by giving directly to the respective emergency funds established by all of the partners’ almae matres, which are earmarked for law students in need. A silent crisis is unfolding with current law school students facing unforeseen hardship including food insecurity, work disruptions, housing instability, and other unanticipated expenses. The firm has launched its “Close to Home” Campaign to support and give back to those institutions of higher learning that provided the foundation on which the firm was built, and to give back to public aid organizations that are helping those in dire need during this crisis.

Kibler Fowler & Cave LLP is pledging 5% of its revenue for the month of April to support the following non-profit organizations and law school COVID-19 emergency relief funds:

Covenant House California

Covenant House California provides food, shelter, education, medical care and job training to homeless youth in Los Angeles and the Bay Area. The young people it serves have been disconnected from their families, often as little children, and usually have endured traumatic childhood experiences. Many are victims of sex trafficking. The needs of these vulnerable young people have grown considerably during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in major disruptions to their educations, an acute need for a safe place to stay and medical care, and loss of jobs on a massive scale.

Managing Partner Mike Kibler serves as Vice Board Chair of Covenant House California. In addition, Kibler and Partner Matthew Cave participate in Covenant House’s annual “Executive Sleep Out” to raise money for the organization.

Los Angeles Center for Law & Justice

The Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (LACLJ) provides free legal representation to low-income survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Los Angeles County. As survivors face increased vulnerability and danger due to shelter-in-place orders and loss of income, LACLJ is continuing to serve the community, helping survivors secure restraining orders, access immigration relief and navigate the justice system. The agency has had to quickly transition to provide services remotely and rethink its intake and service delivery process. LACLJ has also had to cancel its annual awards gala, which is its largest fundraising event celebrating survivors and those who make a difference for them. Through these challenges, LACLJ remains dedicated to keeping its virtual doors open and ensuring that survivors have access to justice and community support even if they cannot afford an attorney.

Partner Matthew Cave serves on LACLJ’s Board of Directors.

COVID-19 Emergency Relief Funds at Seton Hall Law School, LMU Loyola Law School, and USC Gould School of Law

These law schools—the almae matres of Kibler, Partner John Fowler, and Cave, respectively—have established COVID-19 relief funds to assist current law school students in need of financial assistance during the crisis, providing money for food, rent, medical and other necessities to students who have been severely impacted by the crisis.
