Kibler Fowler & Cave Counsel Dominique Caamano, former Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Central District of California, was recently quoted in a Daily Journal article regarding a memo from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Central District of California addressing uncompensated court-appointed defense work during government funding lapses.
Drawing on her extensive experience as a federal prosecutor, Dom provided insight on the legal and ethical considerations raised by the memo. She explained that they are “trying to balance the shutdown with what needs to continue to be a Sixth Amendment right to counsel… We’re in an unprecedented time, so this is obviously a difficult situation. They really took a thoughtful and careful approach.”
