In August 2024, Partner Matt Cave was named as Chair of the Clerkship Committee of the USC Gould School of Law Board of Councilors. With more than a decade of experience as a member of the Clerkship Committee, as well as having served as a law clerk for two federal judges after graduating from USC Gould, Matt brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to this leadership role.
The Clerkship Committee plays a vital role in supporting students interested in pursuing clerkships. It provides up-to-date information about courts to which they may apply, facilitates connections with former law clerks, and guides applicants through the application process, including preparing candidates for their interviews. The Clerkship Committee also organizes various programs throughout the year, including a 1L Clerkship Reception, the Honorable Howard B. Turrentine Fund Judicial Clerkship Reception, which recognizes students who have secured clerkships, various Dean-hosted sessions, and a Clerkship Diversity Initiative, among others.
Most recently, the Clerkship Committee hosted its annual 1L Clerkship Reception on September 30, 2024, where Matt served as the emcee. There were well over 100 student attendees, all eager to learn about the many benefits of clerking. Tamerlin Godley, a partner in the Litigation practice at Paul Hastings LLP, served as the keynote speaker. USC Gould School of Law Dean Franita Tolson and Professor Heidi Rummel also spoke. Several of the nation’s top law firms have sponsored the Clerkship Program, including Paul Hastings, O’Melveny & Myers LLP, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP, Proskauer Rose LLP, Morrison Foerster LLP, Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, and KF&C.
